Schema is also cultural and emotional. Having preconception of something being boring, difficult, or “not for you” affects engagement and thus learning.
Problems of wrong schema
- If the wrong schema is activated it hinders the learning process and affects memory retrieval
- Beginners can sometimes learn better than having incorrect schema, since schema is sticky and needs reorganization
